Painting the Barns
In July & August 2019, Roberts Brothers (Randolph, WI) removed old paint on 7 barns. They then consulted with JAR Builders (Sturgeon Bay, WI) on replacing sections of failing wood siding. Roberts Brothers then finished the project by painting the barns with professionally matched blue paint. Not only will this project have significant eye appeal, new siding will add longevity to the otherwise vulnerable barns.
New Roofs at Horseshoe Bay Farms
During the summer of 2019, Buhr Construction (Brussels, WI) installed new roofs on 8 barns at Horseshoe Bay Farms. The new roofs protect barns and their interiors, adding significant time their lifeline.
Welcome Center & Mercantile Restyle
Once the Powerhouse that generated electricity to Frank Murphy’s entire lower farm area, Horseshoe Bay Farms has refurbished this building into our new Welcome Center and Mercantile Shop for guests. Visitors can find brochures detailing our non-profit organization, self-guided tour maps, the meeting area for guided historical tours, and various HSBF branded merchandise. We are continuously adding new merchandise each season, so be on the lookout for more Horseshoe Bay Farms memorabilia!
Door County Bookmobile & Firetruck Garage
With much thanks to the Garage Door Services of Door County, Horseshoe Bay Farms has now redesigned our firetruck display garage to house the Door County Bookmobile with it. That’s right! The Door County Bookmobile will now be showcased alongside our 1927 Seagrave Firetruck for guests to enjoy!
New Country Flower Garden
While Horseshoe Bay Farms is known for our dahlia flower fields, our organization has been looking for a way to incorporate a larger variety of flowers and greenery to add to our guests’ enjoyment. With the guidance of our expert gardener and volunteer Roy Scott and much thanks to all our volunteers who helped with this project, Horseshoe Bay Farms now hosts our own country garden! Featuring a large array of perennials, trees, shrubs, and, of course, our beloved dahlias, the HSBF country garden is a majestic masterpiece to behold. Not only does our new country flower garden boast a plethora of new fauna, but it also has become the host to a beautiful new picnic area for Horseshoe Bay Farms. Whether a planned day trip or lunch break from work, come experience our garden!
Repurposed Heifer Shed
Along with our new country gardens, Horseshoe Bay Farms has chosen to renovate our Heifer Shed into a garden storage area and shaded picnic center. While the project itself is still ongoing, the Heifer Shed now has new gravel thanks to Northern Landworks, LLC.
Beehive Project
Alongside our new Country Gardens, Horseshoe Bay Farms has introduced honey bees to the property as part of an interactive educational experience for our guests. This project allows visitors to learn about the vital role honey bees play in our ecosystem, agriculture, and food systems. Each year, the hives produce honey that is harvested and made available at our farm stand through donation-based giving, with proceeds helping to support our ongoing educational and preservation efforts.
Greenhouse
Alongside our growing educational initiatives, Horseshoe Bay Farms is introducing a greenhouse to the property as a hands-on learning experience for our guests. The greenhouse supports the growth of vegetables, flowers, and seasonal plants while giving visitors the opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening practices, plant care, and food production. Produce and plants grown within the greenhouse will be incorporated into farm programming and seasonal offerings, helping support our mission of education, preservation, and community engagement.
