HORSESHOE BAY FARMS MASTER PLAN

2020 06 15_HSBF_cover.jpg

In early 2019, Horseshoe Bay Farms, Inc. began the process of developing the long-term master planning process for this important Door County civic landmark. Following an exhaustive selection process, Ten X Ten was tasked to lead a multidisciplinary design team, including a team of expert consultants - AWH Architects and Wigen Consulting.

In consultation with local stakeholders and informed through public input, the Master Plan was developed throughout 2019 and completed in early 2020. The plan identifies strategies for the continued preservation and rehabilitation of the Farm for a sustained future. The plan also proposes a road map for unique programs and reactivation so that Horseshoe Bay Farms can once again serve as a vital community space. HSBF, Inc. formally adopted the full master plan in July 2020.

A condensed Master Plan Promo Booklet can be viewed below. Also available below is the full Master Plan. Please feel free to view both documents, reach out with questions, and share with other interested stakeholders.

HSBF is already in the process of implementing the Master Plan. We have been making progress every year, rehabilitating the farm homes for our summer interns to live in. As well as making improvements in our barns, and farm grounds. The gardens are a majestic masterpiece that has been added recently.

OUR MISSION & GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Since 1917, productive land along the shores of Green Bay has been site to Horseshoe Bay Farms, formerly Murphy Farms. The Farm is listed on the National & State Register of Historic Places for its prominence in the development of Door County - both in the agricultural industry and as a civic landmark.

Horseshoe Bay Farms, Inc. (HSBF) is a 501(c)(3) that was created to assure this treasured part of Door County history was never lost. A group of passionate neighbors donated the funds for purchase and refurbishment of the property in November 2018. They immediately moved two historic cottages from across the street and began urgent repairs to other vulnerable historic structures.

The mission of Horseshoe Bay Farms is to act as a responsible steward through preservation, rehabilitation, and activation of the historic Horseshoe Bay Farms, securing its future for generations to come. As a Center for Sustainable Stewardship, the Farm teaches by example the principles of care for the site, land, and history, serves the Door County community as a center of learning and culture, and supports innovation as a hub for development and exchange of stewardship practices. Bridging the past with the present, and science with art and culture, Horseshoe Bay Farms continues to serve the community as an important civic landmark where its history can be celebrated and shared.
